An Easy Thing You Can Do To Speed Up Computer Performance

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

If you are looking to speed up computer performance, there are a number of things you can do without taking it to a professional and spending a ton of money. A slow computer can be at times frustrating, and cause you to lose valuable time especially if you work under a deadline. Additionally, the joy of surfing the net can become just an annoyance.

If you notice programs “dragging” or running slowly, you can install a registry cleaner to delete unwanted files from the Windows Vista registry. The registry is the computer’s hub where all applications are stored, and the operating system accesses it for information. Sometimes when you uninstall software or hardware, entries aren’t erased from the registry.  This can cause redundancy, and a slow down because the computer must search through all the files to get to the information it needs. This can cause the computer to open programs on the hard drive at “turtle-speed”.

A registry cleaner simply goes through your registry and removes files that are no longer used. In addition, some registry cleaners can even alter files that are corrupted or damaged. Files can become this way when you alter or update a program, but a registry cleaner is the only way to restore them to working order.

But not all registry cleaners are created equal. You can see that in the price differences. You can find cleaners available to download for free if you look in the right places. But these tend to be mediocre products compared to cleaner that you can purchase. A good cleaning program will also come with the option to backup and restore your old registry if something should go wrong. That is an essential tool to have with any registry cleaner since a bad registry can cause a huge headache for the user. Be sure to check user reviews on the internet to make sure that the program you’re looking at does everything that it claims.

A good registry cleaner serves a number of purposes, and Registry Mechanic by PC Tools is one of the better cleaners we recommend. If you have never used it before, you will observe a marked improvement in your PC. However, if you make a registry cleaner a part of your regular maintenance, you will experience far fewer crashes and a better overall computer speed. While it may help to speed up computer performance, there are plenty of other great reasons to buy a registry cleaner.

Speed up PC Performance with these Easy Tasks

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

If you are a DIY (do it yourself) type of person, then you can certainly speed up PC performance quickly and easily.  A slow starting computer system can be annoying; especially, if you are under tight deadlines.  Computer performance needs to be top-notch to get the job done, and if you follow these easy tasks, you’ll surely tackle the “slow down”!

Before you do any clean up to Windows, it is ever-so-important to backup your data! If you make a mistake, or reconfigure something incorrectly, it can cause bigger problems and maybe even a trip to the PC doctor.  Be safe, and backup those files!

If you want a road runner “speed computer” use registry disk cleanup software to eliminate all of those extra paths that you’ve left during the uninstall process.  This data is no longer needed, and is lazily sleeping within the registry.  Wake them up and kick them off the disk!

Imagine how hard it would be to read a document if the words and sentences were randomly arranged on the page. It would be very difficult to read and would take you twice as long to get through the document.  This same process happens within your hard drive when your computer needs to search for information to run programs if the information is scattered all over the place. This happens in the course of time when using your computer. You can improve the computer’s performance by regularly defragmenting your computer.

Removing some programs from your startup menu may be a little more rigorous and hands on than the other two methods, but it is no less important. Nowadays, we all have dozens of chat, music and other programs we like to run on our computers. But these programs love to add themselves to your start menu when you install them so that they pop up immediately after your boot your computer. However, this can lead to a huge slow down in loading time. If you remove these programs from the startup menu, you can still load them manually, but they will not load themselves when your computer turns on and they will not hog all that memory.

Network drives are just right for sharing files with friends’ computers, but have you deleted unused drives recently?  This is another way to speed up PC performance.  Operating systems automatically connect to installed networks when they boot up.  You can delete these network drives by clicking on “my computer”, then access the “tools” tab.  See it right there?  It reads “disconnect network drive”.  It is simple and fast!

Memory itself could also be an issue. If these simple free steps do not solve your PC speed problems, you may just need more or new RAM. Bad RAM can lead to many problems and not enough RAM can lead to a slow PC. RAM is relatively inexpensive, but you can always just buy it as a last resort. If you want to speed up PC performance, consider trying the easy and free methods first.

The Simple Things I Did To Speed up My Computer

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I recently noticed my computer was sluggish and producing errors. Now I’m going to tell you the simple things I did to speed up my computer with the help of a registry cleaner. Before I get into the specific tasks, I want to explain what the registry is. Within your computer system, the registry is a catalogue of sorts that the operating system accesses every time an action is performed.  For example, when I run Microsoft Windows, the computer searches through the registry for files to open and run the program. Because I constantly install/uninstall programs for my home business, extraneous files are left within the registry causing my computer to run slowly.  In fact, I started to receive various error messages that caused not only frustration, but it also was wreaking havoc on my work.

Before you even consider altering or cleaning any part of your computer, you need to backup your data. While there is a very small risk of losing data when you are just doing simple cleaning, there is no reason to put your important information at risk. If you don’t have a backup drive, you can always sign up with one of the many web-based companies which will store your information for only a few dollars a month.

When I searched for ways to speed up my computer, one of the most common pieces of advice I came across was to run a registry cleaner. While it should be a part of every computer’s routine maintenance, very few people actually know the importance of running a registry cleaner. Your registry is the brain of your operating system and it can become cluttered very quickly. Running a cleaner can free up hard drive space and speed up your computer. However, you may want to be cautious around free programs. They may not come with all the features you need or they may be poorly written. Typically though, registry cleaners are very straight forward to use. Run the backup utility they come with, then run the cleaner.

After you run a cleaner, you’ll want to run a couple programs that are so important Microsoft included them with every copy of Windows. Scan disk and drive defrag are both found under system tools and can significantly improve the speed of your computer. They basically find errors on your drives that may be causing problems and then restructure your files so they load more quickly. The programs essentially run themselves, but since they may take a while, you should consider starting them at night before you go to bed.

In the past, I utilized different network drives in order to share files between other computers. But out of sheer laziness, I didn’t take the time to disconnect from these network connections. This time in order to improve speed, I accessed the “Disconnect Network Drive” under the “Tools” tab, under My Computer to cut off the connections. This also helped with boosting PC speed.

One of the biggest problems I had when trying to speed up my computer was an extremely slow load time at the initial startup of my computer. The time it took from pressing the power button to actually being able to open a program could be several minutes. This is often because programs sneak their way into you startup programs when you open them. Some popular chat software and music download tools can add themselves without you even knowing it. So if you find yourself closing programs upon startup that you don’t need running, check your startup programs and remove anything that isn’t necessary.

Most of these methods come at no cost and all of them are easy to do. It doesn’t take a professional to get your computer running back at top speed. It just requires you to roll up your sleeves and do a bit of cleaning. Of course a little help from reliable tools like Registry Mechanic by PC Tools didn’t hurt too. I followed all of these steps when I chose to speed up my computer and the difference has completely eliminated my frustrations and aggravations from having a sluggish PC.

When you open and save files you have found online, they often come in many different types of file formats. If you don’t have a particular type of program on your computer, you may not be able to open some files. In other cases, the files are universal, and that means any one can open them without too much hassle. If something is formatted by Adobe, you simply have to do an Acrobat Reader download to open your file. It might sound a little complicated, but it is rather easy and almost anyone can use it without problems.

If you have a file formatted in Word, for example, you may not be able to open it if you don’t have that program. You may be able to open it with other programs on your computer, but that is not always the case. Sometimes, they will come out looking like gibberish. If something is Adobe, the Acrobat Reader download will allow you to open the file with ease. In many cases, important files and downloads for government and other sources are done in this format so anyone can get to them if they need them. The best thing about the Acrobat Reader download is that it is always easy. If this is something you don’t have when you go to download something, a page will pop up that allows you to do the Acrobat Reader download and then install the program. Even those who do not know very much about computers will find it easy. It is usually a matter of clicking a few buttons and it is done. Sometimes, it will ask where to put the download, but any location is usually fine and the program will always pop up and work when needed. In some cases, you may have to choose the Adobe program, but for the most part, it is done for you.

There are even times when you buy a new computer and the Acrobat Reader download will not be an issue. Some already come with the needed programs installed. However, there may be times when the software is updated, and when you go to open something using that program, you will be offered the update. It’s always a good idea to take it, and as long as you are on the official site, you don’t have to worry about downloading something that will harm your computer. You will only get the needed program or the needed updates.

Remove DRM From WMA

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Digital Rights Management (DRM) came up with anti piracy campaign. It added restrictive options on music and video files sold online. These restrictions force buyers to use the WMA files into only one format. The format that came with the bought package can be used only. Usually files can be converted easily into other formats. And they can be copied to other devices like iPod’s etc. but not files with DRM protection on them. Neither can DRM protected files be copied to other programs or devices, nor can they be converted to other formats enabling them to do the former.

Piracy control is important. But so is customer privilege. Consumer rights call for helping them use products in any way they desire. Imposing restrictions is the opposite of that. That is why some methods have been created to remove DRM from WMA and WMV files. While some of these methods will not be available to all, others are easily accessible and successful. Many customers have been taking advantage of these methods to use their music freely.

Removing DRM from WMA is actually easy. Some methods are:

•    Burn the files to CD and rip them into many formats. Works best if software and hardware for both procedures is present.
•    Record the files by another software or device. But make sure the recording is free of white noise and does not lose quality.
•    Software to remove DRM from WMA files is available online. This is the best option as anyone can use it easily and without hassle. It is fast and effective.

Software to remove DRM from WMA files is available with music hosting websites. One has to pay a little subscribing fee to use this convenient software. Most sites give the software at a trial basis for free. Till due date for free trial, user can convert as many DRM files as desired. Software can be bought afterward. It gives satisfactory output.

All the user has to do is add files to the program. Select the format to convert WMA files to. Start the process and the program will remove DRM from WMA effectively. The process is quite fast and files can be converted into as many formats as desired.
